about 90% of the time I put a quicktime movie on a website it has a playback problem where it will only download at 5k/sec, even though other movies are quite happy to dl at 50-60k/sec from the same server, same browser (same web page even).

Sometimes a movie will work, but mostly they end up on a go slow.
It doesn't seem to matter what browser I use, or whether I use <embed> or <OBJECT> <embed> or not.

Compression wise, it does exactly the same whether I use Sorrensen or Mpeg 4 (all different rates)

Any ideas ?

You should probably make sure that your movie is "hinted" that will let the player grab the stream at a rate that makes more sense.

Does that work when I'm not using a streaming server though GoodDoug ? I thought you were only supposed to use hinting for a streamed movie, wheras I'm just putting it on a normal site as a download with fast start (the typical fake streaming)

I'd need to look it up, but I think that it still needs to be hinted.
